Writing historicals is not so easy. There are those titles to research and get right, especially how people address one another in the aristocracy. Reading historicals is much more fun, believe me. 🙂
Do you know that “shut up” was used only during the twentieth century? Yup, so I couldn’t use that. Too bad, my dialogue had been quite good. (If I do say so LOL) Changing it to “Stop talking” didn’t quite have the effect I wanted.
My hero suffered from severe wounds, and I had to research if they had painkillers then or he would indeed have suffered even more horribly. Or how his wounds would’ve been treated. Here’s a site about medicine: http://main.thebeaumonde.com/archives/2392
I will definitely share more as I go.
As a writer, I try to stay true to the times of the world that I am writing in. It’s part of world-building. Still, I know there will be times when I’d fail to catch a certain word or phrase. In those times, the fault’s all mine and I ask the reader’s pardon. I would appreciate it a lot if you could send me a note and let me know.
