Ha. I can’t resist. It’s been so long since Passion’s Fire came out that having The Lord’s Lover published is like having my first book published. Still, whether it’s the first or the second or…the hundredth, I know I’ll still feel the same–proud and anxious and hoping my baby would do well. I imagine that’s how every mother feels about her child.

Here’s a sneak peek of The Lord’s Lover. The scene was one year after Marcus had run out on Race, when the latter was recuperating from the accident:

Marcus drew in a deep breath and squared his shoulders. “I’m sorry, Race, for leaving. I was the worst kind of friend—the fair-weather kind. I should’ve stayed and kept you company while you healed—”

“You didn’t like the blood, I know.” As though that sentence exonerated Marcus of what he’d done.

“That is not a reason—”

“Enough for you not to be around—”

“Not even a good one—”

“Summer was almost over anyway—”

“Dammit, Race, I’m trying to apologize,” Marcus shouted, panting. In the sudden silence, his indrawn breaths were loud.

Race searched his eyes, then nodded. “Apology accepted.”

“Friends?” Marcus held his breath.

“The best.”

They raised their hands until they were at eye-level, then clasped them and gripped tight. They exchanged grins. Relief whooshed through Marcus that he hadn’t lost Race due to his stupidity. It wasn’t stupidity, really, but rather his inability to accept his attraction to a man, but it had been stupid to run. Running hadn’t solved anything.

Their handclasp had brought their bodies close together, until Marcus could see Race’s gray eyes, like the gray of a stormy day, so vibrant and full of…thunder and lightning.
